人工水

INSTALLATION 2021
San Francisco sala, Festival MEM, Bilbao, SPAIN,

This "speculative machine" is a form of "machine-organ" that feeds a network of plant water. This installation speaks of the power of speculation: inventing forms and concepts without ties but linked to the present. The future cannot be detached from the present. to discuss and exchange on the temporality of machines and humans.

''人工水'' focuses precisely on what British intellectual Timothy Morton refers to as hyperobjects1. We cannot define an object as mere physical matter. As in Ridley Scott's Alien2 , blood is an acidic matter that transforms everything it touches.         ''人工水'' studies a vital natural element: water. It tends to become part of a flow of goods. Chemical particles modify the ecosystem and are found in every part parts of the environment. My project returns to the idea of a

[...] treatment of hyper-objects [which] requires a faith in the network, as a way of seeing, thinking and acting3

Water is part of this network. To utter this term is to accept the impact on the ecosystem. Everything is interconnected. If we disrupt one element, we disrupt the next chain. 人工水 echoes a reality that occurred in China in 2008 during the Olympic Games. This country wants to control the weather. The artificial snow has already fallen. Water seems necessary to us, yet we wish to control it.

''人工水'' is presented as a device. A water content acts as the heart to irrigate the other plants. How? By means of an automatic dryness or humidity detection system, a machine opens or closes the irrigation valve. On one of the towers, a screen displays a plant's water data. If we move closer to the plants, we see Kokedamas. These are Japanese-style plantations. It's a very good reflection on our desire to control the ecosystem. There are no pots, so no floral domestication. The plants are covered in vegetable moss, suggesting that they are creating a world of their own.

The project raises the new action of artists, or should I say "hackers". We must decode the system of calculation in which we find ourselves4 . Mathematics is supposed to model nature. Humans, animals and ahumans - as a new relationship between humans and non-humans - are the intelligences of this new society. It's an ecological art that uses algorithms to discover the invisible images of algorithms. It's a practice that defines the artist as a creative thinker in the challenge of thinking in the challenge of technicality..
